Eleanor Mustang From “Gone In 60 Seconds” For Sale

Mustangs have always been popular with Hollywood, and there may not be any other car in the world that has made as many big screen appearances as the Mustang. But some movies merely feature a Mustang; other movies put the American pony car front in center in the action, like “Gone in 60 Seconds,” both the original, and the remake.
To that end, one of the original 1967 Eleanor Mustangs from the “Gone in 60 Seconds” remake will be heading to auction this weekend at the Autosport International Show, in Belgium. The car is being sold by by Coys auction house.
We’re sure the arguments section will soon devolve into an argument over whether or not the remake was better than the original. Whatever your opinion, one cannot argue with the hotness of a blond Angelina Jolie stealing fast cars, nor the beauty of the “Eleanor” ‘67 Mustang. Since that movie debuted, Eleanor body kits have been all the rage among the well-to-do, and who can blame them? It’s a beautiful car, with a beautiful name. And it is now up for auction.
There are a total of ten “Eleanor” Mustangs from the remake going up for auction, though this was one of just three designated as “hero” cars. This particular Eleanor was used for shots with actors, interior shots, action scenes, and so on. Originally powered by a 289, it now features a 331 Ford crate engine. Pre-auction estimates place the gavel-slamming price at between $115, and $155,000, which is probably only a little more than you could expect to pay if you went out and built one yourself.

More specifically, Ford recently invested in the development of new body shells that feature the exact fit, finish, and style of the original vehicle just off the assembly line. The Body shells are being manufactured to match the 1965, '67 and '69 models, and the American automaker is so confident in their quality that they've been officially licensed too.
Dynacorn, the company behind these exciting new body components turned to the original convertible and fastback designs for reference when manufacturing them. However, it's worth noting that the company also worked to make the overall build much stronger than their inspiration. Hajek Sets Three Production Truck Land Speed Records At Bonneville

Those in drag racing and land speed circles are likely to know the name Brent Hajek, but for those who don’t, the farmer/oilfield service operator from Oklahoma seemingly has more full-size toys than most young boys have Hot Wheels cars, and even operates a motorsports museum in his hometown of Ames, Okla. When he’s not busy making a name for himself as one of the nation’s top ranchers and spokespersons for corn-based ethanol fuels, he’s competing in the NHRA Super Stock division with his ’08 Cobra Jet Mustang or blazing across the salts of Bonneville in search of land speed record glory.

And glory he attained last week during Bonneville’s annual Speed Week, held August 13th to 19th on the world famous Utah course and hosted by the Southern California Timing Association.
Hajek, behind the wheel of modified 2011 Ford Super Duty, set three production truck land speed records during Speed Week, including the U/BD world record with a speed of 182.143 MPH in the truck that’s certainly not short on size or weight. On Speed Weeks’ third day, Hajek broke the existing three-mile record with a speed of 167.539 and following the customary impound, completed a successful backup run of 171.123 the following morning. The truck was then filled with B-20 Bio-Diesel and returned to the course, where it clocked the 182 MPH record-setting lap down the salt.

FORD UNVEILS 2012 FIESTA RS WORLD RALLY CAR WITH ALL-NEW COLOUR SCHEME

BIRMINGHAM, 12 January 2012 – The all-new Ford Fiesta RS World Rally Car livery was revealed today when the company's official team unveiled the new colors that will adorn the car in the 2012 FIA World Rally Championship.

Ford World Rally Team director Malcolm Wilson and Ford of Europe motorsport chief Gerard Quinn unveiled the livery for the eye-catching Fiesta RS WRC at the Autosport International Racing Car Show in Birmingham, motorsport's traditional start-of-season showcase event.

The team will continue to be sponsored by Castrol EDGE. Branding for Castrol's global range of best-in-class motor oils will feature prominently in the Fiesta RS WRC's new livery for the upcoming season, as it did in 2011.

The Fiesta RS World Rally Car, with its four wheel-drive transmission and 1.6-litre EcoBoost-inspired engine will once again spearhead Ford's challenge in the 2012 and 2013 championships. The car, based on the best-selling Fiesta road car, claimed a clean sweep of the podium in both the first and final rounds of its debut season last year.

Finland's Jari-Matti Latvala and co-driver Miikka Anttila, who topped the world rankings for special stage victories in 2011 and won the final round of the championship in Rally GB last season, are confirmed as team leaders for 2012.

They will be partnered by former world champion Petter Solberg and Chris Patterson, who have signed a one-year agreement to drive the team's second Fiesta RS WRC in all 13 rounds. The experienced Solberg won the world title in 2003 and the 37-year-old Norwegian has 13 world rally wins to his name. It will be his second stint with Ford, having launched his world rally career with the team in 1999.

Gotta Have It Green-Boss 302 Mustang

Among the new color choices is the 2013 'Gotta Have It Green', photographed here in at Ford's Detroit Auto Show under way this week. We like the new reflective 'hockey stick' side graphic that replaces the boomerang U-shaped treatment of the 2012 model.

A reworked front fascia, improved front-end cooling, a more assertive front splitter and new paint and graphics options along with 440 horsepower will have have your neighbors 'green with envy!'

Ford hits 100,000 truck sales with V-6 EcoBoost engine

Ford Motor Co.'s gamble that consumers would embrace a fuel-efficient V-6 in their F-150 full-size pickup hit a milestone Wednesday with confirmation that 100,000 trucks with the smaller EcoBoost engine have been sold this year.

The last time Ford sold that many pickups with a V-6 was in 1985, according to Doug Scott, group marketing manager for F-Series trucks.

In recent months, about 40 percent of F-150 buyers have been paying an $895 premium for a turbocharged, direct-injection 3.5-liter V-6 that was designed to deliver the power of a V-8 but fuel efficiency of a V-6.

Ford also offers the truck with a conventional 3.7-liter V-6.

The first pickups with the EcoBoost V-6 were sold in late February. The take-rate hit 40 percent by May and has remained that high ever since.

Demand prompted Ford to increase production a couple months ago of the truck with the EcoBoost engine.

Total sales of the pickup with one of the two V-6s offered are more than half of all the trucks sold.

Ford makes the F-150 at the Dearborn Truck and Kansas City assembly plants.

The Biggest and The Baddest!

The Rose Bowl – The Grandaddy Of Them All, as they say – is one of the most storied bowl games in college football, and the pre-game parade is a big part of the pageantry of the event. Last year, Natural Balance broke the record for the world's largest float with an 84,300-pound rolling display, but the pet food company seems thirsty for more world-record glory.

For 2012, Natural Balance is building a 100,000-pound monstrosity that is 116 feet long and contains a 65-foot wave pool built specifically for one Tillman the Dog. Tillman will be surfing the waves on the float, which sounds impressive if you didn't already know that this super dog is also an avid skateboarder.

To tow this massive float, the folks at Natural Balance are counting on power from the tried-and-true Ford 6.8-liter V10. The 362 horsepower mill, which boasts 457 pound-feet of torque, is completely stock. The same can be said for the six-speed automatic transmission, save for a custom gear reduction setup behind the output shaft to get the float moving. The beefy 10-pot was pulled directly from an F-650, but we're guessing the 28-foot long truck won't be getting a 100,000-pound tow rating anytime soon.

Ford designer creates special Parnelli Jones Mustang Boss 302 for charity

Eleven years ago, Ford designer Melvin Betancourt suffered a serious heart problem and had to undergo intense open-heart surgery at the Henry Ford Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. The surgery was a total success, with Betancourt crediting Henry Ford's doctors with saving his life. Now, the designer uses his expertise as a way to give back to the medical field that helped give him a second lease on life.

This special edition 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca has been done up as a modern interpretation of the famed coupe Parnelli Jones raced to victory in the 1970 Trans-Am Championship. Painted in School Bus Yellow and complete with black accents and number decals, the Boss will be auctioned off at the Get Your Heart Racing benefit on October 15. The benefit is sponsored by Ford Motor Company and the Henry Ford Health System and raises money for cardiovascular care, research and education.

New UAW deal confirms 2013 Shelby GT500 will get 5.8-liter SC V8

Today Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers agreed to a new four-year contract that will add $6.2 billion of investment to U.S. factories, and a close look at the details reveals some news about the upcoming 2013 Shelby GT500.
There has been much speculation about what engine will be used in the next generation Shelby. Back in March Car and Driver reported that the new GT500 would pack more than 600 horsepower to one-up the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. At the time it was thought the increase in horsepower would come via an increase in displacement to 5.8-liters and that the Eaton M112 supercharger would be replaced with the newer and larger TVS2300 unit. A few months later a batch of photos of a GT500 test mule with an extra larger intercooler testing at the Nürburgring in Germany sparked speculation that a twin-turbo V8 would possibly be the new power plant.
Now Ford’s new agreement with the UAW shows that the initial report of a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 was indeed correct. The contract states that the Romeo Engine Assembly Plant will receive a $50 million investment and start production of a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 when the 2013 Shelby GT500 goes into production next year. The plant will also continue the production of the 6.2-liter V8 found in the Ford F-150.

In other news, the contract also shows that the AutoAlliance International Assembly Plant, which produces the Mustang, will receive a $555 million investment and take on production of the next generation Ford Fusion in place of the Mazda6.

The 2012 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang is powered by a 50-state legal TVS 2.3L ROUSHcharger®system that delivers over 540HP and 465 ft/lbs of torque. The powertrain works in concert withthe ROUSH-calibrated suspension that lowers the Mustang by almost an inch, and enables thevehicle to pull over 1G of lateral force on a dry skid pad. The Hyper-Series builds on the ROUSH Stage 3's horsepower and handling by offering a set offour limited edition appearance packages. "The 2012 RS3 Mustang has been a big hit with ourcustomers and enthusiasts. Not just because of the RS3's power and handling performance,but also because of the 288 graphics and paint color combinations that can be selected," saysGary Jurick, VP and General Manager of ROUSH Performance. Each 2012 RS3 Hyper-Series Mustang comes standard with black body paint as the base. TheHyper-Series palette includes these four color options: "Mat It Mango", "Gas It Green", "PunchIt Purple", and "Launch It Lemon". For the 2012 model year, ROUSH Performance will onlybuild twenty-five vehicles of each color. Vehicles will be serialized as ROUSH certified builds,and will be numbered as per their production spot for each Hyper-Series color (ie: "Vehicle #12of 25 – Mat It Mango").

"The materials used in the Hyper-Series graphics really allow these unique colors to pop anddance in the changing sunlight," continues Gary Jurick. "The primary graphic color is hyperblack, to compliment the hyper black wheels, and then the graphics accent stripe appears in theselected Hyper-Series color." This color is then applied to the exterior graphics, badges, andrear faux gas cap. The dynamic accent color also carries through the interior on the suede doorpanels, leather seating, and the shift boot stitching.

Each 2012 RS3 Hyper-Series Mustang comes with two shifter balls that are easily swapped outdepending on the mood of the driver. "The Hyper-Series shifter ball color really 'pops' as youview the interior of one of these Hyper-Series RS3's!" says Jurick. "We decided to include asecond shifter ball that’s a bit more conservative, if preferred."

The 2012 RS3 Hyper-Series includes a suede-wrapped steering wheel to add a comfortable feelwhile driving a performance car. Finally, each new RS3 Hyper-Series owner will receive aunique accessories package including ROUSH apparel and display items to commemorate theirserialized Hyper-Series vehicle.

With its powerful and fuel-efficient 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, the 365-horsepower Ford F-150 EcoBoost® is outselling all other competitive six-cylinder trucks combined.
The new EcoBoost V6 is one of four new fuel-efficient engines Ford introduced in the F-150 for 2011. Another of those new engines – a 3.7-liter, 302-horsepower V6 – also outsells all other competitive V6 engines in full-sized trucks from Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge and Toyota.
According to sales data from J.D. Power and Associates, both new Ford truck V6 engines accounted for 79.5 percent market share of V6 full-sized trucks sold in July.
The Chevrolet Silverado takes second place with 12.1 percent market share, followed by the GMC Sierra with 4.0 percent, the Dodge Ram with 3.5 percent and the Toyota Tundra with 0.9 percent. Nissan does not offer a V6 in its Titan pickup.
In July, Ford sold 49,104 F-Series trucks. The EcoBoost V6 accounted for 40 percent of the mix, while the 3.7-liter took 16 percent of sales. This is the third consecutive month that V6s have outsold V8s in the F-Series. The last time the V6 outsold the V8 in America’s most popular truck was 1985. Year to date, the F-Series has sold 313,183 units, 8 percent higher than a year ago.
“Both of our new V6 powerplants are changing the way customers think about truck engines,” said Doug Scott, Ford’s truck group marketing manager. “The 3.7-liter has more horsepower than two of the three V8 engines we offered in last year’s F-150. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, at 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. torque, is in a class of its own – no one has anything even remotely close to this engine, which can tow as much as 11,300 pounds and deliver 22 mpg.”
Fuel efficiency, along with best-in-class performance, is another reason the two new Ford F-150 engines are rewriting the book on V6 truck sales. The 3.7-liter F-150 carries an EPA rating of 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, while the F-150 EcoBoost is EPA certified at 16 mpg city and 22 mg highway, making it the most fuel-efficient truck with more than 350 horsepower on the market.
The hot-selling F-150 EcoBoost is now the highest volume vehicle in Ford’s growing global family of cars, trucks and SUVs available with the company’s patented fuel-saving technology.
EcoBoost combines engine downsizing with turbocharging, direct injection and other technologies to deliver both performance and fuel efficiency gains as high as 20 percent over the larger engines they replace. Ford holds more than 125 patents on its EcoBoost technology and has launched a family of EcoBoost engines globally in sizes ranging from 1.6 liters to 3.5 liters.
The next two models scheduled to receive EcoBoost engines are two of the company’s top-selling utility vehicles, the Edge crossover and the Explorer SUV. Both will offer a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and deliver class-leading fuel efficiency of 30 mpg and 28 mpg highway, respectively. Edge and Explorer EcoBoost go on sale this fall.
Overseas, Ford EcoBoost engines are also a hit, with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder optional in the European C-MAX multi-activity vehicle virtually sold out. Sales volume is nearly 50 percent higher than projections

Talk about staying power. It's 2011, and who'da thunk Harrison Ford would still be sexy now that Star Wars is fading history. Or graying but eternally hunky George Clooney. Or Charlie Sheen, who defies being categorized anywhere. (Undoubtedly Steve McQueen would be dean of them all if he'd been around longer.) We recall these examples of seasoned male magnificence to make a point. Like the Ford Mustang, the supreme, most iconic muscle car of them all, they've never left the spotlight. Now the 2011 Ford Mustang convertible proves it's more than perception, as it shows up as fresh and defiant as ever.

Consider this legendary rear-drive pony car that burst on the scene decades ago to be idolized in sporty car circles. Unlike rivals from Dodge and Chevrolet and their subsequent resurrections, it never entered retirement. Instead, a few costume changes ensued before it emerged in pure muscle car mode and hasn't looked back since.

The sexiest Mustang of all has to be the 2011 convertible. There's a whole lot of fire under the hood, spiked by a new 3.7-liter V-6 powerplant that just loves to growl when you throw the six-speed trans into gear. Having the brass to blow the chrome off of dual exhaust tips might not come easy for some vehicles. The "Stang's" 305 HP rating and impressive 280 ft.-lb of torque make that talent a given. But lest you think it's an uncultured beast, it balances that impressive power with refined handling, road-hugging finesse and the coolest profile around.

In the "oops" department, there's one entry. Like most four-seat sports cars, using the rear for anyone taller than doll-size is iffy. For someone "bootylicious," like Beyonce or Scary Movie star Regina Hall, trying to get back there could be really scary. There's something called the law of physics that even Ford can't overcome.

Pricewise, the basic soft top (only) Stang comes in a squeak under $30K. The 19/30 mileage numbers (automatic) or 19/29 (manual) thrive on regular. Adding fuel, like other Ford vehicles, is simple with no filler cap to replace, like a race car. If you've stopped for a big slurp, you and your car can get a fillup a few seconds faster so there's less time for that annoying Camaro or Challenger you passed earlier to play catch up.

Can we envision a Ford, a Clooney, a Sheen mesmerizing Malibu in a sizzling 2011 Mustang? You bet. We think these leading men have the smarts and sophistication to know a true classic when they see one. And one afterthought. Take heart, Justin Bieber, it takes time to become seasoned. With a little luck you can get there too.

An F-150 EcoBoost™ race truck, with an engine that has the equivalent of 10 years of rugged use, finished the grueling Baja 1000 in just over 38 hours, traveling 1,061 miles. This same stock EcoBoost engine has endured the equivalent of 150,000 harsh user miles on the dynamometer, was installed into a new 2011 Ford F-150 to work as a log skidder in Oregon, towed a 11,300-pound trailer at a high-speed NASCAR track and beat the competition in a steep-grade towing contest at Davis Dam.
The Baja 1000 represented the culmination of the F-150 EcoBoost torture test program, demonstrating the durability and capability of the class-leading 3.5-liter EcoBoost truck engine.
The 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine used to power the race truck performed spectacularly in the harsh terrain and extreme temperature swings of the Baja California Peninsula. The truck endured hard accelerations – often at full throttle – and stiff decelerations across the mountains at temperatures that swung between freezing and 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Though the EcoBoost engine entered the race with the equivalent of 10 years worth of rugged use, its inherent performance advantages – twin turbochargers and direct fuel injection – helped it complete the race.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in a stock engine – especially one that’s been through what this one has,” said driver Mike McCarthy. “This EcoBoost engine didn’t miss a beat. It took a beating and kept right on going. This is one tough engine.”
The engine that powered the race truck goes next to the Ford powertrain laboratory for a teardown and inspection.
The EcoBoost truck engine produces a best-in-class 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm and 365 horsepower at 5,000 rpm. Up to 90 percent of its peak torque is available from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm, which helps drivers stay in the power.
“The Baja 1000 is always a tough race, and many of our customers and enthusiasts saw this event as the ultimate challenge,” said Eric Kuehn, chief engineer of the 2011 Ford F-150. “It was an outstanding opportunity to showcase the 3.5-liter EcoBoost truck engine’s durability. We took an engine that’s stock and essentially 10 years old, and raced on the same course with highly modified competition with up to 800 horsepower.”

When we were but knee-high auto obssessives, our two favorite rides at Disney World were Space Mountain and Indy Speedway. One gave us a genuine feeling of speed while the other let us pretend for a few fleeting moments that our driver's license wasn't quite so far away. Now it looks like youngin's out there will have a new car-themed attraction to check out in the Magic Kingdom, or more specifically, Disney's California Adventure Park. Motor World Hype has managed to get their hands on a few quick shots of the amusement park's new Cars-themed ride.
Called Radiator Springs Racers, the attraction is set to open sometime in 2012. In addition to the marginally-creepy looking cars in this particular ride, Disney is planning a whole section of the park dedicated to the Pixar film. The opening should coincide nicely with the Summer 2011 release of Cars 2... and it may just give us still-car-obsessed adults a good reason to revisit our youth.

On the day we've reviewed two descendants of his original creation, we find out that the man who designed the Mustang, Donald Frey, passed away at 86. As with the car's decades of success, the inspiration for it was unlikely: the Chevrolet Corvair. Frey, who was assistant general manager and and chief engineer of a Ford Motor Company still suffering dry heaves over the Edsel, said he watched GM put bucket seats in the Corvair and rename it Monza, and it began to pick up with customers. There was also the dinner table motivation of his kids telling him his cars stunk.Frey's first take on the Mustang was a mid-engined convertible in 1962 which, while working with Ford General Manager Lee Iacocca, he would develop into the car introduced to the World's Fair in 1964. When the coupe predicted to sell 80,000 units a year actually sold a million-plus units in its first two years – and then sold and sold and sold – Frey became an American legend. The 2011 Ford Mustang puts 305 high-performance horses in the hands of V-6 coupe buyers with a new all-aluminum dual-overhead cam (DOHC) engine that delivers a projected 30 mpg on the highway with a six-speed automatic transmission and fun for drivers on nearly every road.
For 2011, Mustang’s new 3.7-liter Duratec 24-valve V-6 uses advanced engineering to deliver its power and economy: Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds. Aluminum construction means light weight. It’s an engine designed to crank out torque down low, rev to 7,000 rpm and deliver the mechanical music sports coupe lovers crave everywhere in between.
“Mustang is completely transformed with this new engine,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. “Everything people love about the car is still there and now under the hood is a V-6 engine that uses premium technology to deliver the power, the feel, the fuel efficiency, even the sound of the best sports coupes in the world.”
New 3.7-liter V-6 engine With Ti-VCT operating its four valves per cylinder, the new Mustang V-6 powerplant sends significantly more horsepower and torque (305 hp and 280 ft.-lb.) to the rear wheels than its predecessor – despite its smaller displacement. The behind-the-wheel feel is unlike any Mustang ever produced.
“This new V-6 engine really speaks to what Mustang is all about,” said Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of global powertrain engineering. “It produces power everywhere in the rev range and loves to be pushed hard. The Duratec 3.7-liter builds on our promise to use advanced technology to deliver both power and fuel economy.”
The high output is due largely to Ti-VCT which allows variable control of valve operation across the rev range. The variable cams operate on a Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket (DAMB) valvetrain using polished buckets and roller finger followers to reduce friction. The end result is as much as a 3 percent improvement in fuel economy and a 10 percent improvement in power output versus traditional engines without these advanced features.
Ti-VCT is complemented by special-tuned composite upper and lower intake manifolds for efficient air delivery and lighter weight. Ignition power is delivered by a high-energy coil-on-plug design, while piston-cooling jets and a lightweight die-cast aluminum cylinder block improve the durability and efficiency of the 3.7-liter V-6 design.
Performance was the mantra for every aspect of engine design. A cold air induction system and dual exhaust give the 3.7 its free-breathing style with a 7,000 rpm redline and near-instantaneous response to throttle inputs.
A die-cast aluminum deep-sump oil pan provides 10,000-mile oil change intervals, saving drivers money on maintenance and resulting in less waste in oil disposal.
Engineers also worked to ensure aggressive, high-performance sounds come from the new engine, from intake to exhaust. Not only does the retuned air intake system minimize losses, it also provides the driver with a satisfying intake rush on hard acceleration. The all-new dual exhaust system is mellow at idle but opens up with a howl at full-tilt, letting Mustang drivers know they’re behind the wheel of a world-class sports coupe.
“This car marks a new type of Mustang,” said David Pericak, Mustang chief nameplate engineer. “We’re using a high-performance quad-cam V-6 with all the bells and whistles in a car that’s become legendary for its handling and roadholding; it’s really going to get a lot of new sports coupe fans excited about Mustang, some for the first time ever.”
Powertrain improvements Drivers can get the most out of the new V-6 engine’s output using either an all-new six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. Both come with the flexibility and fuel economy benefits of six forward ratios regardless of whether buyers want to shift for themselves or not.
Drivers who prefer a manual gearbox will enjoy the short throws and direct feel of the shifter along with the relaxed cruising permitted by the extra top gear ratio. Customers choosing the automatic will be pleasantly surprised to find the advanced six-speed 6R60 transmission does not sacrifice fuel economy – or performance – for convenience, delivering an expected 30 mpg highway with crisp, quick shifts that maximize torque and horsepower.
The automatic transmission also features a grade-assist or “hill mode” to improve drivability on hilly terrain. This technical innovation uses vehicle input – acceleration, pedal position, vehicle speed and brake status – to automatically determine the correct gear ratio while on an incline or decline. Hill mode eliminates sixth gear, extends lower gear operation on uphill climbs, and provides additional grade or engine braking for coast downs.
The standard 2.73 rear axle provides an ideal blend of cruising fuel economy and acceleration, aided by the wide ratio spread permitted through the use of six forward speeds in the gearboxes. Performance enthusiasts can select an available 3.31 rear axle ratio for better off-the-line launch characteristics.
Fuel economy improvements Extra horsepower and refined engine operation will be the most noticeable features to new 2011 Mustang 3.7-liter V-6 buyers while projected class-leading fuel economy, also a standard feature, offers an additional bonus. The numbers speak for themselves:

• The new Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system which eliminates the drag of an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump
• Six-speed transmissions that allow lower cruising revs without sacrificing off-the-line performance
• Aerodynamic improvements such as a new front fascia, tire spats on the rear wheels, modified underbody shields, a taller air dam and an added rear decklid seal
Handling and driving dynamics With so much additional horsepower standard, the 2011 Mustang received enhancements to its chassis to maintain the outstanding balance and driving behavior Mustang owners expect. Damper tuning and spring rates were revised to provide a smooth highway ride while a new rear lower control arm and stiffened stabilizer bar bushings improve stiffness and handling for better cornering response.
While Mustang’s aerodynamic improvements were designed mainly to improve fuel economy, engineers also adjusted the vehicle’s front/rear lift balance. The result is a car that tracks more securely and feels more “planted” to the road surface at higher speeds, helping to keep the tires in better contact with the pavement.
The addition of EPAS marks a new era in driving dynamics for Mustang owners. Steering effort at parking lot speeds is reduced, while high-speed and highway feel is improved for more precise steering and handling. Because the belt-driven power steering pump is eliminated, EPAS provides a quieter vehicle with fewer components drawing engine power.
EPAS also enables new technologies that adjust for minor driving annoyances. Pull-Drift Compensation adjusts the steering to correct for crosswinds and minor road crowning, while Active Nibble Control helps eliminate the “shimmy” felt at high speeds when a wheel is out of balance or a brake rotor is warped. Both conditions are alleviated by EPAS independent of driver input, helping ensure Mustang delivers a smooth, comfortable driving experience in all conditions.
Mustang buyers choosing the new V-6 will also get a standard limited-slip differential that provides better handling and more sure-footed grip in poor weather conditions by directing engine torque to the rear wheel with the most traction. Refinements complement advanced features To reinforce the sporty nature of the 2011 Mustang, all V-6 models will come standard with new instrument cluster graphics, including a speedometer that reads up to 160 mph and a tachometer that reads to 8,000 rpm, reflecting the free-revving style of the new engine.
Additional lightweight soundproofing measures help filter unpleasant, high-frequency noises while tuned intake and dual exhaust add the sounds Mustang buyers relish.
Occupants also benefit from new door seals and a rear wheel arch liner that reduce road noise for a quieter, more enjoyable drive, all with minimal weight gain compared to the 2010 model.

Ford gets CES innovation awards for Sync and Work Solutions

For years, Microsoft founder and former CEO Bill Gates was the keynoter at the Consumer Electronics Show. When Microsoft first announced its intention to create software for cars nearly a decade ago, most people that had suffered through the indignities of the blue screen of death recoiled in horror. The idea of having to close all of our car windows and re-booting our cars became a running joke. While Microsoft's automotive in-roads probably didn't get as far as the company hoped, it does have one prominent application: Sync, one of the most popular options in Ford vehicles in recent years.

With Gates' retirement, Ford CEO Alan Mullaly will be taking on the big keynote in Vegas next January and the Consumer Electronics Association (CES) will honor the automaker for its efforts in developing Sync and the Work Solutions package for its trucks. Ford has continued to expand the functionality of Sync recently adding traffic, directions and general information, as well integrating with Bluetooth phones to automatically call 911 in an emergency. The show organizers have also named the new Taurus as the official car of the 2010 show.

So Anderson Ford here in little ole' Clinton finally got a Taurus and, while it's not the SHO I've been waiting for, it at least is the color I'm wanting (candy red metallic). It's an SEL with the only option being SYNC. I went in this afternoon to take it for a spin as this will be my first time seeing the car in person, let alone sitting in the car and "test fitting" it.

In the name of full disclosure, I'm a big guy. About 6'4" and well north of 350 lbs. My current daily driver is a 1994 Crown Vic and I own two Mustangs (1990 and a 1978) and my wife drives a 2007 Lincoln MKZ. I fit in all of the cars fairly well with the MKZ being slightly tighter being that my right knee rests right on the edge of the center stack. It's annoying but doesn't keep me from driving the car on long trips (just got back from Kansas City, MO this week).

Back to the Taurus. The salesman, Patrick, and I head out to the car. I have to say the Taurus, even in "lowly" SEL trim has presence. The character line that runs from nose to tail at the belt line actually continues into the headlight housing; a detail I had not noticed in the photos and was something I impressed with. It would have been easier/cheaper not to continue that detail into the clear lens but nonetheless it's a subtle feature that I think many would be surprised by. Speaking of that character line, I feel it is perfect for the car. It helps to lengthen the body of the car and helps to transition to the taillamp assembly. I also believe if you look back at Ford fullsize cars of the 50's and 60's you would find that same line. I like it.

The fuel door also surprised me in that there is no "finger hole" to open the door. Instead you push on the cover like you would a compartment on a piece of AV equipment and the door pops open. Much classier than the "pull hole" that's on other car and is the same as the 2010 Mustang from what Patrick told me.

So I get in the car. With the seat all the way back, the steering wheel up and in all the way I have plenty of room. Ingress into the car is effortless and easier than my Vic or the MKZ. I was worried about feeling cramped with the way the center console dominates the interior but once settled in the car and the door shut I found the dual cockpit feel very comfortable and inviting. Seatbelt use was easy thanks to seatbelt receptacles that were not buried down between the seat cushion and center console; a lesson I'd like to think the engineers learned from the Fusion/MKZ because those things are buried compared to the Taurus. Head room is an easy 2+ inches (and I've got a big melon for a head). Sight lines out the front glass is large and unobtrusive. IP gauge visibility is perfect. I didn't play with the controls on the center stack although everything was apparently within easy reach. The buttons for the information display (INFO, RESET, etc) were at the very edge of my reach without having to bend forward but I told Patrick I hardly ever use those in the MKZ anyway. He apparently uses the ones in his truck more often and found these a stretch for him.

So I put the car in gear and we leave the dealership. This car is equipped with paddle shifters and I was itching to try them out. We stayed in town at first and I left the car in "D". The six speed shifted excellently and I feel it's strategy has been significantly upgraded compared to the shifting in the MKZ. Often the MKZ hunts for the correct gear ratio around town, something I feel is related to the drive by wire programming and the computer trying to interpret what gear the car should be in. The Taurus exhibited none of this and was always in the right gear at the right time. The 3.5L also had plenty of pickup for the size of the Taurus. I can only imagine what it's going to be like with 100hp more in SHO trim. Sightlines out the back window, something the magazines complained about, was fine. I could clearly see traffic behind me in normal driving and felt no desire for a "larger" sight picture.

I decided to work the manual mode of the transmission and see how it worked. One question I had was how the transmission handled coming to a stop in manual mode (do you downshift it to '1' or does it hold the last gear you're in?). The first "test" was changing from 'D' to 'M' while cruising, like the SHO commercial. Cruising at a leisurely 30mph I dropped it into 'M'. The gear number indicator immediately lit up '4' indicating I was in fourth gear. I use my left thumb to toggle the thumb lever outboard and the transmission immediately downshifts to third with a blip of the throttle. Awesome. I hit it again and we're in second as we approach a stop sign. I leave it in second as we come to a stop. At around the 5-10mph mark the indicator changes to '1', indicating we're in first gear. So the transmission, even in manual mode, is smart enough to know when coming to a stop it should shift back to first gear. Whether this is good or bad, I don't know but it did answer a question I had regarding it's operation. Leaving the stop sign I "let the big dog eat" and ran the engine out to 6500rpm and pulled the left paddle (I'm left handed) to initiate an upshift. I was slightly disappointed in the perceptible lag in upshift timing but when the transmission did shift it was clean and quick. Pulling through second the engine felt very strong and never appeared to run out of steam. The upshift to third was more of a disappointment as the transmission seemed to hesitate between letting go of second and "engaging" third. It could have been the engine speed or it could have been programming, no way of knowing. Resuming a more "legal" speed I clicked the trans back to 'D' and let it handle shifting duties while I focused on driving.

We turned off the highway onto some twisty two lane country roads. I selected manual mode again and took to carving some corners. The Taurus, for being a two ton sedan, was sure footed and solid as I took the car through some tight back country roads. Had the corn been cut I would have been able to easily raise my speeds 10mph or more and apex the turns more effectively but at no time did I get the impression that the car was "un easy" or being pushed too far. The brakes were effective although I wasn't pushing the car hard enough to work them.

We concluded our romp with a quiet, leisurely cruise back to the dealership. The car is extremely quiet and comfortable. I wish I'd had my SHO for my trip to Kansas City I just got back from, it would have made the trip that much more awesome. I love the looks of the car (red is the color to get...maybe steel blue too, it's a toss up).

We ended our escapade talking about the SHO. Turns out only customer ordered cars are being built right now and the fastest way to get one is to order one since after the customer orders are filled, then the dealer allotments will be done. Some dealers have gotten their allotment car(s) already but they said if I want one, ordering it will get it fastest. They said figure 6 to 8 weeks to slot it in from when I order. So, after driving the car today I feel pretty good about placing my order so tomorrow (Friday) I think I'm going in and I'll throw my hat in the ring. I've got my X-plan PIN and I know what I want so we'll see what happens. Long story longer, the new Taurus is awesome and should be a home run for Ford. Drive One.

THE EXTERIOR: Form Does Follow Function
F-150 SVT Raptor is tough, fast and built with performance in mind. The aggressive appearance is shapeed by performance needs. THE INTERIOR: Rugged & Refined

THE TECH: Serious Capability
Raptor not only has the chassis designed to soak up the rugged off-road, it has the technology and the capability to perform.
320hp and 390 lb-ft torque are on tap from the 5.5L SOHC V8 FFV engine. Or choose the optional 6.2L SOHC V8(coming winter 2010) delivering an estimated 400hp and over 400lb-ft torque. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Electronic Locking Rear Differential uses a true mechanical connection to lock the left and right axle shafts together so both turn at the same speed with the same amount of torque. This switch-controlled feature maximizes traction capability at the wheel with grip, without having to stop the truck. The power sent to the wheels via a serious 4.10 axle ratio.
THE CHASSIS: The Right Stuff
Building a high-performance off-road truck isn't all about horsepower, although the Raptor has plenty of that! A serious off-road truck starts with the right suspension, and the Raptor has the goods. 'Fox Racing Shox' use a patented internal bypass system to provide position-sensitive damping for the Raptor shock absorbers. This allows for softer damping at ride-height to help improve traction, stability and comfort. Stiffer damping toward the end of the shock absorber stroke allows the Raptor to be driven more aggressively without bottoming out. The bottomline: Raptor offers an impressive 11.2 inches of suspension travel in front and 12.1 inches of travel in the rear.

Fans of open-air motoring have made the Mustang convertible a perennial bestseller. Those who love the sun but want to cut back on sunscreen use can choose the pony car with the panoramic glass roof, which filters nearly all of the sun's harmful rays.

DETAILS:

The 2010 Mustang builds on the safety success of the 2008 Mustang, which became the first sports car and the first convertible to earn five-stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for frontal crash, side impact and rollover tests.

The Mustang's considerable body stiffness contributes to its driving performance and has an added benefit in accident protection. While the coupe's body structure is 31 percent stiffer in torsional rigidity than its predecessor, the convertible's is more than twice as stiff – creating a "safety cage" that helps protect the cabin from deformation and intrusion during an impact.

The front structure is designed to absorb and help dissipate it before it can reach the passenger compartment. The Mustang's front rails have an octagonal shape designed to spread forces evenly at the firewall and progressively deform for increased protection in offset frontal crashes.

Protective sun-drenched driving The 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang offers consumers convertible-like driving without the need for sunscreen, because its factory-installed panoramic glass roof filters 90 percent of the sun's heat-generating infrared (IR) rays and 96 percent of burn-causing ultraviolet (UV) rays.

The UV-filtering capability of the new Mustang's fixed glass roof is comparable to sunscreen lotion with a sun protection factor (SPF) of approximately 50, which exceeds the dermatologist-recommended sunscreen strength of at least SPF-15.

The glass roof's ability to filter IR rays reduces heat load in the cabin so that occupants remain comfortable while enjoying the sun. The reflective glass also reduces energy used by the vehicle's air conditioner system while protecting the interior fabric from fading and deteriorating.

Good for the soul Sun-soaked cruising is the convertible and Glass Roof Mustang's top appeal factor. Scientific studies show that increased exposure to sunshine or bright light is therapeutic because it regulates the body's synthesis of melatonin, a mood-regulating hormone that modulates the circadian cycle of sleep and wakefulness. Sunshine also triggers the body's conversion to active vitamin D, considered to be an effective natural remedy for "the blues."

Health experts caution that cool breezes in convertibles can misleadingly mask the sun's harmful rays as occupants may not feel as hot as when they're stationary under the sun. Therefore, dermatologists recommend the use of sun-block lotion or moisturizer with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher prior for top-down drives.

Roof glass popularity rising According to J.D. Power feature content research, 62 percent of buyers in the sports car segment wanted a sunroof/moon roof on their next vehicle. Since its introduction in 2008, the Glass Roof Mustang – which is available as a $1,995 option on both the V-6 model and the GT – has accounted for 10 percent of all Mustang sales. The convertible accounts for 25 percent of Mustang sales, and sell most strongly in California, Florida, Texas and Georgia.

Mustang is just one Ford model that features ample sunlight and generous views. The 2010 Lincoln MKS and 2009 Ford Flex, Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX also offer sun-splashed driving enjoyment with an optional panoramic roof glass that is privacy tinted for the occupants' comfort and protection.

06-02-09: Ford released its May sales numbers today which show one of the best months since July of last year against the news of GM entering bankruptcy and Chrysler finishing up with theirs. For the seventh straight month, Ford saw a market share increase as exciting new products continue to break sales records and bring new customers for the Ford lots.
Models like the new 2010 Ford Fusion lead the sales charts with a 9% increase over last year. Lincoln is even up 2%. Overall Ford saw a 20% increase in sales over last month, giving the brand a cautious optimism that there might be a bottom in the declines over the past year.
Though Ford executives cautioned that the next 90 days would be a volatile time due to the bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler as well as the fire sales of their many closing dealerships, they believe Ford will continue to capture a larger portion of the market through the end of the year.

Consumers worried about buying cars from GM and Chrysler are headed to Ford dealerships in increasing numbers. Ford was the only one of the Big 3 who did not ask the government for a bail out, and that has given them major points in consumer sentiment which is largely against the federal bailouts.

When you factor in the major new products coming from Ford this summer including the new 2010 Ford Taurus, Ford Transit Connect, and Lincoln MKT the outlook continues to look good for the blue oval. While the economy is challenging, Ford is finding that buyers are opting for more fully loaded cars right now, and passing over the strippers. With Ford is rolling out new 345hp twin-turbo Eco-Boost options in a number of new cars this summer, that will only add to their appeal.

The 2010 Mustang is off to a good start in sales in May with 8812 units. Though the numbers are still slightly down from a year ago.The best part of Ford’s sales trend right now is that they have been able to move more metal with lower incentives than in the past. With far less unsold inventory on hand, they are not forced to give the cars away which means they are making more profit on each car sold. With all this news, Ford has planned an increase in production for the 3rd quarter of 10,000 cars and trucks, further cementing their path of recovery and giving Ford employees a better feeling about their jobs in the short term.

The All New 2010 Roush 427R Mustang Has Arrived

The ROUSH 2010 427R™ Mustang will be the first in the lineup of new ROUSH® 2010 Mustangs to have a ROUSHcharger® installed which boosts the horsepower to 435 and offers 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the first time that ROUSH has been able to offer a supercharged vehicle at the launch of a new body style.Under the hood customers will see many differences in the ROUSH 2010 427R Mustang compared to previous years. One of the biggest changes is that the long air induction tube that wrapped around the engine was eliminated making a much cleaner appearance under the hood. The intercooler reservoir has more than twice the volume of previous generations, and the intercooler itself is a single core cross-flow radiator which means more efficient cooling. It is substantially larger than on prior model years, and is now raised higher off the ground which should offer much less potential for road debris damage. Even the hoses on the ROUSH 2010 427R have seen an upgrade; they are all now 100 percent molded rubber with abrasion resistance and have imprinted markings for things like the clamp locations. This makes for even more of a true OEM appearance under the hood, and ROUSH has taken this factory appearance to the degree of matching the Ford grain on the OEM radiator reservoir and duplicated it on the one used by the intercooler. Although much of the 4.6L, 3V powertrain components are a carryover from that used on the 2005-2009 ROUSH Mustangs, customers will notice much more refinement and OEM-level quality materials and appearance on the new ROUSHcharged™ engines. This new 427R™ is be covered by a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty.The 2010 427R™ includes an appearance package which is comprised of several components such as a new front fascia and front splitter, rear fascia, side splitters, and a three-piece rear wing. The new rear fascia is a one-piece design which improves the fit and finish; the part is injection-molded by ROUSH Manufacturing in an OEM-level TPO plastic which, in the black color with decorative grain, will help reduce rock chips. The vehicle rides on 18-inch cast chrome wheels with high-performance Cooper Zeon tires, with a new 20-inch cast chrome wheel as an available option.This package also includes an all-new suspension package to greatly enhance the handling of the vehicle and turn that daily commute into a slalom course. The ROUSH chassis engineering team has driven tens of thousands of miles on the streets and tracks to create the best blend of comfort and handling, and claim that this is the best suspension package they have come up with yet for the Mustang. A ROUSH wheel hop reduction kit will be included with all vehicles that have the upgraded ROUSH suspension package installed at the factory.
